Would putting drilled, slotted, or vented rotors improve OEM brakes.

Jan 02, 2021 · 6 Posts. #8 · Mar 20, 2021. I had a set of Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors with Z23 pads on an 09 SE V6 solid rear rotors. It was a good upgrade, almost too good for daily driving. Loved the rotors, not so much for the pads. I decided to test the braking capability on the highway, did a hard stop from 70 mph to 40 off an exit ramp. Many lightweight rotors have a wider air gap. A heavy duty rotor a narrower air gap and thicker wall. All the while the total thickness remains the same. The greater the rotors mass the better it manages heat by being a better heat sink. The down side is that too much mass (and too narrow an air gap) the longer it takes for the rotor to cool down.

Oct 07, 2020 · Disc brake rotors are found on the majority of modern cars. Some come with only front discs while others feature all four. Even though using friction pads on cast-iron discs is a technology invented all the way back in 1929, it took the automotive industry a long time to realize that this method of braking is simply superior.

Mar 22, 2017 · The problem with regard to our question of drilled and slotted rotors is that those practices act to reduce the mass of the rotor, reducing the desired heat transfer. Some rodders have correctly stated that the brake rotors surface area is increased by drilling or slotting, but the issue in heat transfer is mass, not surface area.

Given the choice between drill holes and slots, the drill holes will give you better braking power over slots for normal city/highway driving. This is why high end BMW, Porsche, Corvette, and Mercedes rotors are drilled, not slotted. However, for track racing (high speed stops), slotted rotors are the better choice. Aug 11, 2007 · I went with standard Brembo replacements, oem pads, and stainless steel braided brake lines. The rotors and pads did a great job, but when I added the braided lines, it felt like the stopping power doubled.

Crossed drilled rotors and slotted rotors and rotors that are both slotted and drilled are designed to allow gases to escape that build up between the brake pad and brake rotor. This allows your brakes to run cooler and stop better. Cross Drilled Rotors. Cross drilled rotors are OEM style blank rotors that have been cross drilled to allow. Slotted rotors are better for actual heavy-duty performance applications. They're stronger than drilled rotors, and they provide some other advantages as well, such as additional biting surfaces.

Stop tech vs. Z1 motorsports cross drilled/slotted rotors. Are Slotted or Drilled Rotors Worthwhile for Towing? | Tundra. Baer s rotors are cast with cross-drilling in. Excellent question! The rotors we use in the big brake kit are genuine BMW Motorsport rotors, which are apparently cast-perforated, not actually drilled. The difference is that the holes are cast into the rotor, so the metallic grain structure (and therefore the strength) is not compromised as with conventional drilling. The real stopping power comes from the pads. Some rotors are softer which can create more bite and will wear out faster. OEM rotors are soft which gives you the increased stopping power. As for the pads, that is all personal preference. I have Axis XBG's which is in between the Deluxe and Ultimates.

May 16, 2020 · Vented Rotors. Vented rotors look like two rotor discs put together with space left in between. It is this space - the vents - that allows the rotor to get rid of extra heat and prevent undue brake fading. The big difference between vented and drilled and slotted rotors is that vented rotors are not necessarily drilled and slotted.

I need ROTORS: Slotted vs. Drilled vs. OEM - E46 Fanatics.

The consensus from others and things that I've read is.... no... drilled and slotted rotors really will do little or nothing to improve braking over the factory rotors. Money might be more well spent buying some higher grade pads if you like. EBT has several grades and they seem to be one of the better upgrade choices.

Feb 11, 2009 · In a word, yes. Drilled and slotted rotors are for real – they can improve braking performance in a lot of different situations. In many situations where a stock set of truck brakes would overheat and fade, after-market rotors will continue to perform. Of course, like any after-market part, there are a few trade-offs to consider. Mar 01, 2007 · These rotors are known to crack and warp very quickly. If you want the actual Brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors you will be paying much more. That's why these blanks are perfect; they perform better, do not tear through pads, are priced much lower, and are much safer.".

Jan 15, 2019 · The original rubi design was for 33 with stock brakes. Drilled/slotted cool better with heavy weight and reduce unsprung weight neither a typical concern on a TJ setup. Lots of components are marginal beyond 33 tires including bit not limited to brakes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.

Drilled, Dimpled, Slotted Rotors? Which is better?.

Cracking is not exclusive to drilled rotors. After I went to drilled rotors I got 17000 miles between pad changes. The rotors did start to crack on the 3rd set of pads and I switched to slotted rotors. Same miles of 17000 per pad change but better rotor life. A side effect of the drilled rotors was a slightly longer time to get the brakes up to.. Apr 07, 2010 · Apr 7, 2010. #4. Drilled and slotted rotors make more noise, more dust, wear pads faster, retain dirt and water in the grooves, are more expensive, are very tough to re machine, and often weight less [this is a double edged sword, however - i LIKE heavier brake rotors]. Plain iron is best.

Jun 15, 2019 · Proper bed-in in important no matter what you choose for a configuration though. If you want the most peace of mind, I'd stick with OEM.
